Mr. Laufer's death was undoubtedly a tragedy.  So were the deaths of the 41,059 killed in traffic accidents in the United States in 2007 - the lowest number since 1992, even though the number of illegal immigrants more than tripled in the same period of time.


In two consecutive sentences the article puts the number of Hispanic drivers in Austin at 21% and 11%.


The article has plenty of detail concerning the accident, but little hard data is presented to support its sweeping generalizations about immigration.
